Benda ini bernama resmi Kern RK Self-Reducing Alidade. pertama kali diperkenalkan pada tahun 1951 oleh Kern & Co, Ltd, sebuah perusahaan yang didirikan oleh Jakob Kern sejak tahun 1819 di kota Aarau, Swiss dan resmi ditutup pada tahun 1991.

The RK Alidade, an
unorthodox design, was introduced in 1951.The reduction mechanism is
essentially the same as the DKR Tacheometer having a circular rotatable
graticule with diagram curves. Similar to other diagram alidades in having
reduction curves, the RK uniquely distinguishes itself by conveniently having
comfortably fixed eyepieces set at 30 degrees which don't tilt with the line of
sight.
A large rotatable pentaprism above the vertically-mounted main telescope, cleverly integrated in the upright standard, raises & lowers the line of sight by activating the large knurled drum with attached diopter finder.The precision drafting arm permits parallel translation for scaling from the survey station occupied but uniquely permits extending the distance measured beyond its own physical length. A pricker rapidly marks the surveyed point on the map precluding the need for diagonal scale & dividers. Telescope is 27x.
